Light look at wine

Andy Bumatai and Richard Field host the Great Hawaiian Wine Challenge, 6:30-7:30 p.m. tomorrow at American Savings Bank's Even Better Home Show, Blaisdell Center.

Celebrity wine tasters Carol Kai, Emme Tomimbang, Pamela Young and Gary Sprinkle will show the amusing side to enjoying a glass of wine.

By the Light of the Silvery Moon: Lyle Fujioka leads a benefit wine tasting and light dinner under the stars, 6:30 p.m. Friday, Waimea Falls Park; $25 with proceeds benefiting the Haleiwa Main Street beautification project. Go on a full-moon walk or take a tram; then Keith and Carmen Haugen perform music and hula, while Art Rivers does a high dive. Desaulniers: Marcel Desaulniers, 1993 James Beard best chef Mid-Atlantic states, presents a demonstration/sampling, 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Lodge at Koele on Lanai; free. He also joins Lodge executive chef Edwin Goto to create three-course, prix-fixe dinners Saturday and Sunday; $65, with wines selected by Chuck Furuya for an additional cost. Desaulniers, executive chef/co-owner of Trellis Restaurant in Williamsburg, Va., is author of "Death by Chocolate," "Desserts to Die For" and "The Burger Meisters."

"Dynasties": Enjoy a week of tastings, panel discussions and cooking demonstrations at the 16th Annual Kapalua Wine and Food Symposium, June 25-29, Kapalua resort on Maui.
