Regents extend contracts
for coaches Shoji, Smart

The University of Hawaii Board of Regents Friday extended the contracts of volleyball coach David Shoji until Jan. 14, 2000 and water polo coach Sharon Smart until June 30, 2000.

"After the year we had, I assumed I would have been rolled over," said Shoji.

"No one at the athletic department has talked to me about my next contact, but I'm happy to hear about the rollover."

Shoji is entering his 23rd season as head coach.

The Wahine finished 35-3 last season, losing the NCAA final to Stanford.

The team will open the 1997 season on Aug. 23 with a match against the alumnae.
