The ninth annual "Juneteenth" festival, a celebration created to commemorate the day when African-Americans discovered they had been freed from slavery by the Emancipation Proclamation, takes place Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Kapiolani Park bandstand. A celebration of freedom
The free family affair will include entertainment, food booths, raffles, arts and crafts, children's games and information and exhibit booths.

Kalakaua Avenue is the site of the 18th annual Pan-Pacific Festival-Matsuri's block party from 7 to 11 p.m. tomorrow. Drums, bon dances and parades
Events include a mini-parade, food booths and stages featuring entertainers such as Hoku-winner John Cruz.
Also part of the festival: a Taiko Festival tomorrow, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hawaii Theatre and a bon dance, 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Magic Island. There will be a parade Sunday at 9 a.m. along Kalakaua Avenue from Saratoga Road to Kapiolani Park.
