SuAnn Bamer is back from covering the Cannes Film Festival for Passions Par Excellence magazine. Although she rubbed shoulders with film greats, she almost missed the Grand March up the red carpeted stairs to the Palais du Festival's 50th anniversary gala. She arrived 45 minutes early and was talking to Hawaii International Film Fest Director Christian Gaines when she realized she had forgotten her invitation. He told her to hop on and, to the amusement of all standing by, they roared off to her living quarters, then returned to the Palais with time to spare ... Biker saves Bamer

"IT'S GOOD, yes; it's numb, yes, but we will succeed where no man has gone before," said Charles Adler, managing director of Challenge Airlines, who is only 30 years old. That "where no man has gone before" business was a joke, Adler admitted, at Friday's reception at the Ala Moana Hotel for the new Australian airline. Nonstop flights between here and Down Under are scheduled to begin in September. Adler said his airline will challenge other lines with lower rates. Gov. Ben Cayetano attended the reception.
