crash not chargedMatthew Pinero and his 2-year-old daughter, Briana Pinero-Ceno, were walking into their house at Manununu Street and Farrington Highway when a car crashed into their enclosed porch.
Pinero was pinned between the car and a wall while his daughter was found under the car. Pinero suffered a broken pelvis and fractured left leg; Briana sustained burns on her arm and abdomen from oil and radiator fluid.
"Thank God we still have a family," said Chantelle Ceno, Briana's mother.
Pinero has only recently been walking without a walker, Ceno said. "His pelvis was busted and he still has to have two more surgeries."
Briana has scars on her right arm and abdomen and will have plastic surgery performed after her third birthday in October, Ceno said."It's been hard for us but we've been managing," she added.
The suspect, a Nanakuli man, crashed his car into the house when he allegedly tried to run a car he had been chasing off the road. The man's ex-girlfriend had fled from his Kaukai Road home after being held against her will for 45 minutes.
Police booked the man for kidnapping and first-degree reckless endangering. He was released pending further investigation, but the prosecutor's office has yet to receive the case from police.
Civil action also is pending against the Nanakuli man.
