Hawaiisailors
take sixth place

The University of Hawaii coed sailing team finished sixth at the Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association (ICYRA) Team Racing National Championships held in Portland, Ore.

Hawaii posted a 6-5 record and defeated the College of Charleston in a tie-breaker to claim sixth in the 12-team field Sunday. Stanford finished first with an 11-0 record.

The national Dinghy Championships got under way yesterday and Hawaii was in eighth place with 16 points. Brown University was first with four points.

GARCIAREMAINS:Sunny Garcia is the only surfer from Hawaii remaining in the Quiksilver Pro after Shane Dorian, Conan Hayes and Kaipo Jaquias all lost during yesterday's third-round action at Grajagan, East Java.

Garcia's third-round match today is against Flavio Padaratz of Brazil.

HSGWA MATCH PLAY: The Hawaii State Women's Golf Association stroke-play championship will be held June 16-19 at the Oahu Country Club. The qualifying round to determine the 16-player field is June 16.

NCAA SUMMER LEAGUE: The NCAA College Basketball Summer League, featuring selected players from local high schools and colleges, begins its 21st season on June 18 at the Kaimuki High Gym.

Competing in the league are Central Medical Clinic, Electricians Hawaii, Honolulu Ford, Pineapple Moon, Royal Guard Security and Schutter & Associates. Games are Wednesdays and Saturdays at 6:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.
