THE new Krush was a hit in a 20th anniversary nostalgic comeback show at the Royal Hawaiian Saturday night. This multi-talented show band will attract attention and deserves a spot in Honolulu's entertainment lineup. Manager Yemun Chung has done his work well in preparing the band. Three of the members are "old-timers" -- Edwin Ramones, Jesse Gamiao and Lucky Salvador. The newcomers are Tino Ibach, Richard Natto, Darryl Anguay and William Daquioag. Tino is "The Man" of the bunch with his solo vocals, dancing and chatter. When Tino was soaring high, singing "I Believe I Could Fly," a big moth came out of nowhere and flew past him. Big laughs. And when members of the band were introduced, several dashed into the audience to give their moms a hug. It was a fun night. Comedy by opening act Augie Tulba made it even funnier. This young man from Kalihi has the goods and captured hearty laughs with his local humor ... Krush comes back

BACK IN 1957 when I was in Paris covering military sports events for Stars and Stripes, I came upon a young lady and asked if I could buy her a drink. "Could I have a sandwich that costs the same as a drink?" replied Antje "Ann" Hill of Hamburg, Germany. Recently, I got a call from a woman who identified herself as "Miss Hamburg," a name I had given Ann in Paris. I had not heard from her in 20 years. She was at the Kahala Mandarin for one night and was boarding the liner Seabourn Legend the next day. She got more than a sandwich this time as I took her to Swiss Inn. Seated next to us were Jack and Ann Simpson and Kathryn Murray. Hill revealed that her first job after coming to America in about 1960 was at an Arthur Murray dance studio, a business Kathryn's late husband founded. After dinner we listened to the groovy jazz singer-pianist Bonnie Gearheart in the Kahala Mandarin's Lounge. Bonnie is such a treat. Jazz lovers will dig this talented lady ...
