Gary D. Pruder is the new man in charge of international programs in China and Peru for the Oceanic Institute, a nonprofit applied research organization located at Makapuu Point on Oahu. Global expertise from Makapuu
"I just got back from two weeks in China, as a consultant for the World Bank," Pruder said.
China is negotiating for a World Bank loan in order to improve the coastal zone environment. The Oceanic Institute would provide training in the use of genetically improved shrimp in protected ponds.
Pruder has headed the U.S. Marine Shrimp Farming Program and served as principal investigator for Oceanic Institute since 1985. He also has been an engineer for General Motors and Thiokol Chemical Co., director of engineering and manufacturing with Chemical Data Systems and director of the center for Mariculture Research at the University of Delaware.
