








Andy Nguyen won the Hawaii Sectional Tennis Championships men's singles title yesterday with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Wilston Poon at the Diamond Head Tennis Center. Nguyen wins
Hawaii SectionalNguyen, 23, teaches tennis at Punahou School and he put on a clinic in the men's final, dispatching Poon, a Maryknoll junior, in one hour.
Ann Pellow won the women's title with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 victory over Judith Weitz on Sunday.
WINDWARD 10K: Chris Crawford was the men's winner and Connie Comiso-Fanelli the women's winner in the Windward Mall 10K run yesterday.
Crawford's time of 33 minutes, 7 seconds, was more than a minute better than Steve Jenness, who finished in 35:57, and Pete Boksanski, 35:58.
Comiso-Fanelli won in 40:31, with Mary Lourdes Conway second in 42:39.
HO'OMANA'O WINS: The sailing canoe Ho'omana'o won the ninth annual Ho'omana'o Challenge Sunday, making the 75-mile crossing from Maui's Kaanapali Beach to Duke's Canoe Club at Waikiki Beach in 9 hours, 24 minutes, 11 seconds.
Ho'omana'o, captained by Mike Field, finished nearly 90 minutes slower than last year's winner, because of calm waters and little wind.
Tui Tonga, with captain Jimmy Jasper, was 11 minutes back, in 9:35:25. Lanikai Canoe Club's Wailea, with captain John Foti, was third in 9:39:05.
Eyecatcher, with captain Jackie Muller, won the women's race in 10:33.35.
QUICK EIGHT CHAMP: Tom Brown won the NAPA Spring Championship Quick Eight title Sunday at Hawaii Raceway Park.
Brown emerged from Saturday's qualifying and Sunday's elimination races with the top dragster and faced off with Paul Giovanetti's Beretta, the best of the full-bodied cars. Brown got a quick start in the final and finished in 7.80 seconds (161 mph) to Giovanetti's 8.35.
ALOHA STATE GAMES: Today is the final day for participants to walk in and register for next month's Aloha State Games.
The Aloha State Games office is located at 1110 University Ave., Room 403. and will be open until 5:30 p.m. today.
The deadline for walk-in registration was yesterday but this is a one-day extension. Also, golf has increased participation to allow 20 additional participants, with spots available on a first-come, first-served basis. For information, call 947-4141.
