








Waipahu's Brian Viloria successfully defended his state Junior Olympic boxing title yesterday with a first-round knockout of Kalakaua Boxing Club's Victor Butay at the 50th State Fair. Viloria keeps boxing title
Viloria won the 112-pound senior title.
Junior division champions were Frankie DeJesus of Waimanalo, who took a decision over Ronald Cordeiro of Waianae at 75 pounds, and Kevin Kahoohanohano of Maui, who won by decision over Lee Lleces of Waipahu at 65 pounds.
Other winners were Kalakaua's Michael Balasi, by decision over Keo Joaquin, Waimea, at 135 pounds; Gaylord Balasi, Kalakaua, by decision over Lordy Agustine, Kakaako, 139 pounds; Kealii Cummings, Central Maui, by decision over Tony Aku, Waianae, 60 pounds; Bronson Lleces, Waipahu, by decision over Chazz Moleta, Central Maui, 60 pounds; and Aaron Manuel, Waipahu, by decision over Brandin Mendoza, Central Maui, at 70 pounds.
TRIATHLON WINNERS: Kona's Luis De La Torre and Honolulu's Heather Matz Jorris both repeated as titlists yesterday in the Keauhou Kona Triathlon.
De La Torre won the men's race, covering the half-Ironman course -- 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run -- in 4 hours, 13 minutes, 39 seconds. Matz Jorris took the women's title in 4:38:14.
SLATER WINS: Kelly Slater remains the hottest surfer on the Association of Surfing Professionals world tour, winning the Marui Pro at Chiba, Japan, yesterday for his fourth victory in five events this season.
Slater boosted his career earnings to $599,995, putting him at the top of the list for pro surfers. The 25-year-old Slater has been on the Tour seven years. Former record holder Barton Lynch took 15 years to amass his $598,487.
Slater beat Hawaii's Kalani Robb in yesterday's quarterfinals on his way toward the title.
