Star-Bulletin"Ua Mau Na Po'e 'O Wai'anae (the Steadfast People of Wai'anae)" is a week-long festival that celebrates the culture of the Leeward Coast, running June 14 through 21 at various locations. Events feature music, hula, arts and crafts, Hawaiian cultural demonstrations, food, interpretative tours and displays. The focus is on the 'aina (land), 'wai (water) and po'e (people) of Wai'anae. Highlights include:
Wai'anae Valley Hawaiian Homestead Association Ho'olaule'a -- 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 14 at Kauapuni Park.
Ahi Fever Fishing Festival -- noon to 8 p.m. June 15 at Wai'anae Boat Harbor.
Nanakuli Cultural Village -- The hub location for the festival, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 14 through 21 at Nanakuli Beach Park. Includes music (Ka'au Crater Boys and Sistah Robi Kahakalau), hula, Hawaiian and ethnic foods, artisans and crafters, cultural demonstrations, rides and tours. Information: 696-6321.
Makaha Cultural Festival & Ho'olaule'a -- Ocean activities, including boogie-boarding, canoe races, kayak rental and other activities, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 21 at Makaha Beach; Arts and crafts festival and Ho'olaule'a, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 21 at Kee'au Beach Park. Lualualei Starlight Storytelling Festival -- 6 to 9 p.m. June 15 through 20 at Maili Beach Park. Celebrates the knowledge and oral histories of local kupuna and storytellers. Information: 696-2314.
