"Jailathon": American Cancer Society presents its annual "Jailathon" at five locations. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 23-24, Pearlridge Center, Phase I; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 30-31, Mililani Shopping Center. Prominent citizens in the community are arrested by Keystone Cops and transported to a jail site. If they cannot meet their bail, they are thrown in "jail," given bread and water, and a cellular phone to raise their bail money. Volunteers are needed for two-hour shifts for keystone cops, bailiffs, judges, jailbirds, chauffeurs or wardens. Call 595-7544, extension 303.

Great Hawaiian Beer festival: 5 p.m. to midnight May 23, Aloha Tower Marketplace, Pier 10 Showroom. Silent auction, entertainment and sampling of over 25 different brews. Benefit for Ka Waikahe Lani Malie and Men of Kahulaliwai Hula Halau Cost: $25. Call 528-5700.

"Country Fair": 2 to 6 p.m. May 23, Blanche Pope Elementary School, 41-133 Huli St. Onolicious foods, children's activities and games, baked goods and crafts. All proceeds benefit the school. Free. Information at 259-8861.

Festival: Lanakila Meals on Wheels Group Dining Service's annual fundraiser, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 24, Lanakila Elementary School. Festival includes craft items, huli huli chicken plate lunches, shaved ice, and entertainment by the Palama Settlement Line and Hula dancers. Presale tickets for huli huli chicken available. "Dance for Life": Haddassah's annual auction, 6:30 to 11 p.m. May 24, Hilton Hawaiian Village, Coral Ballroom. Entertainment includes Gene Rollin and the Royal Music Makers, and Veronica Kelly. Cost: $75. Tables of eight and 10 available. Hadassah is a worldwide organization helping to build research and teaching hospitals in Israel that fight for the cure of cancer, AIDS and other life threatening diseases. Information at 677-0120.

Comedy night: Bo Irvine will provide the comedy and the Wofford-Keat band will provide the entertainment in the Rotary Club of Windward Oahu's comedy night/live auction, 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. May 24, Mid-Pacific Country Club. There also will be an amateur joke-telling contest. Auction items include exotic birds, vintage wines, neighbor island trip packages, restaurant meal deals, rounds of golf, plants and art. Proceeds support windward community projects including the Windward Spouse Abuse Shelter, scholarships for windward high school students and the Meals on Wheels program. "Kahikolu": Halau Hula O Maiki's fundraiser, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 26, St. Francis High School. At 10 a.m. a fun run will be held from Halau Hula O Maiki in Puck's Alley to Kahikolu, the memorial garden in St. Francis High School. From 11 a.m. there will be entertainment and food booths. This year's fundraiser is dedicated to Aunti Maiki Aiu Lake, founder of Halau Hula O Maiki. Cost: $10 (advance purchases) or $15 (that day purchases), plus $10 for those entering the fun run. Runners will receive a commemorative T-shirt. Tickets at 955-0050.

"An Evening of Music and Magic: Hawaiian Style": "Voices of the Rainforest" by Lisa Matsumoto with music and lyrics by Roslyn and Paul Palmore, will be performed 7 p.m. May 30, University of Hawaii-Manoa Campus Center Ballroom. Proceeds go toward Atherton YMCA's college student volunteer programs. Cost: $25, adults; $5, children under 12. Call 946-0253.

"Free Mumia": Concert by "Refuse & Resist! - Hawaii" to free Mumia Abu-Jamal, 3 to 9 p.m. May 31, 1212 University Ave. Abu-Jamal was convicted of murder and sentenced to death in 1982. When he was to be executed in Aug. 1995, thousands of people protested and demanded a new trial. Abu-Jamal's appeal is now before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Cost: $7. Information at 576-4430.

"A Place to Skate": Volcom presents Suicidal Tendencies in concert, 7:30 p.m. May 31, Nimitz Hall. Proceeds go toward a new skate park. Cost: $16.50. Call 536-4255 or 545-4000.

"World's Largest Car Wash": Sponsored by Budget Rent A Car-Hawaii to benefit "Give Kids the World." Silent art auction, concert and dancing: Kim Char Meredith, Matt Yee, Don Conover and the Honolulu Men's and Women's chorus will entertain, 7 p.m. June 7, Ala Moana Hotel. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. Dancing from 9 to 11 p.m.; auction 6 to 11 p.m. Proceeds go to the Gay and Lesbian Community Center. Cost: $35 (includes dinner). Purchase tickets at 951-7000 by June 3.

"Relay for Life": Ten-member teams needed for the HMSA-sponsored benefit for the American Cancer Society. Teams will take turns walking, running, dancing (or any other forward motion) around a track to collect a minimum goal of $1,000 per team. Entertainment includes Nohelani Cypriano and her mother Leina'ala Simerson, Nalani Olds, Jesse Rivera, "TSB," Down South Connection and performers from "Legends in Concert." There also will be free health screenings, free on-site testings for cholesterol, diabetes and body fat percentages, visits by McGruff and magician Alan Arita, children's games, craft booths, bingo, line dancing, hula aerobics, door prizes and snacks. Roberts Hawaii will provide free shuttle transportation to and from several satellite parking lots to and from Kapiolani Park. From 7 p.m. June 28 to 7 a.m. June 29, Kapiolani Park. Chili cookoff: Looking for teams for the 13th Annual Compadres South Pacific Chili Cookoff, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 14, Victoria Ward Parking Lot, behind KHON-TV. Team entry fee: $100. Proceeds go toward various Hawaii charities. Entry forms available at 591-8307.

"Wok For the Cure": Receive a free first dinner course at eight participating restaurants when purchasing a "Wok for the Cure" card for $88. Proceeds benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation-Hawaii Chapter. Participating restaurants and their "free" dishes are: Sam Choy's Diamond Head Restaurant, fried poke salad; Dynasty, medley of roast duck, pork tenderloin and shoyu chicken; Eastern Garden, imperial scallop soup; Golden Dragon, chicken-black mushroom pot stickers; Hee Hing, Chinese sashimi salad; Legends Seafood, fresh shrimp with fruit; Panda Cuisine, minced port, Chinese sausage on lettuce pockets; and Royal Garden, fried scallop on Chinese taro.
