Kelly cited by surf industry

Hawaii's John Kelly will be given the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association's Environmental Award at the Waterman's Ball in Costa Mesa, Calif., on Saturday.

Kelly founded the environmental group, Save Our Surf, as well as the Surfing Education Association.

GIPSON TO SPEAK: Former University of Hawaii at Hilo basketball player Frank Gipson will be the guest speaker at the Vulcans' All-Sports Banquet Sunday.

Gipson, a 1996-97 UHH Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, was a four-year point guard for the Vulcans (1971-75).

The banquet will be held at the new UHH Gym beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.
