Chaise a haven
in the sun

For all who enjoy relaxing outdoors, the ultimate experience in lounging just may be the Chaise de Soleil. But it's more than just a sun lounger.

"Think of it as a private outdoor haven; a sanctuary from the sun, wind and bustle; an oasis of comfort and privacy for reading and relaxing," says the Marin Deck Chair Co., which sells the Chaise de Soleil for $3,500.

That may seem a bit pricey, but it includes shipping to Hawaii. The chair comes via UPS in four packages and can be assembled with a screw driver and small wrench in two hours, the company says.

"Hawaii is a good market for us," says Jerry Felling, the company's marketing director. "We custom build each chair, and usually sell them through architects and designers."

The "solar chair" is made with an aluminum frame and comes with teak trim, a snack tray, retractable foot rest, vented side panels, and cover.

Using push button controls, you can recline to an infinite number of positions, then lock it in. When you want to change position the solar chair comes up automatically, powered by a gas hydraulic cylinder. The chair also rotates 360 degrees to face or avoid the sun or wind.

The seating system is composed of waterproof woven latex straps, and high-density cushions. The fabric is 100 percent solution dyed acrylic.

The company in Lagunitas, Calif. has been making the chairs for eight years.
