A 47-year-old Maili man is facing murder charges in connection with the shooting death last night of David Eli, 24, in Nanakuli. Two other men were injured.

Eli, shot in the stomach, died after being rushed to Queen's Hospital in critical condition. Timothy Calderon, 53, shot in the chest, was in guarded condition in Queen's. Ronald Botelho, 43, shot in the left forearm, was in satisfactory condition at Pali Momi Hospital.

About 6 p.m. yesterday, the three stepped between the gunman and his ex-girlfriend, Cheryl Botelho, at the Holopono Street home of her father, Glenn Botelho, witnesses said. A barbecue was under way when an argument started.

"I heard three gunshots," said neighbor Joyce Calma, who also heard some arguing just before the shots. Police said the suspect, after shooting at the three men, chased Botelho into the house with the gun and shot at her. After a brief struggle, the suspect left, police said.

The three male victims were in the driveway of the single-story wooden-frame home, said Fire Capt. John Rabago of Nanakuli Station.

Homicide Det. Allan Napoleon today said the suspect drove to the Waianae police substation and surrendered. Police have not yet found a weapon, he said. The man is being held pending charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder, terroristic threatening and burglary.

Neighbor Milagros Hiongson said the Botelho family is "very nice," but sometimes there were heated arguments there.
