Lei contest: Market City Shopping Center's Seniors' lei contest, April 26. Leis made by people ages 50 and over will be on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for public judging. Prizes awarded to top three leis. Leis may be made with any type of flowers. Contestants must drop off leis by 9:45 a.m. in the lobby next to Blockbuster and Burger King.

Box Car Race: American Box Car Racing International event, April 26, Waikele. Cars must meet the American Box Car Racing International's specifications. Call 947-3393.

Lyon Arboretum hike: Ray Baker will guide hikers to the upper reaches of the arboretum. Wear normal hiking attire. Bring bug spray, rainwear, water, snack or lunch. Meet in the arboretum parking lot, 9:30 a.m. April 26. Cost: $9. Limited enrollment. Reservations at 988-7378.

Sunday Snoop: A sneak peek at some of Waikiki's top hotel suites, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 27. Cost: $20 (in advance); $25 (day of the event). Information at 396-5106.

Halawa Ridge hike: Inger Lidman leads a strenuous 7 to 10 mile hike for experienced hikers only on April 27. Hike may last up to nine hours. Cost: $7. Reservations required. Call 955-0100.

Volcano Lore: John Dvorak teaches about the myths, legends, misadventures and current science of active volcanoes, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 28, Kilauea Theater, Big Island. Cost: $40. Call 1-808-967-8222.

In-line skate classes: Two-hour, four-week "How Not To...Crash Course," 5:30 p.m. May 1, 8, 15 and 22, University of Hawaii. Skates and protective gear provided. Cost: $85. Students must be 16-years-old and older. Register at 956-6468.
