TUESDAY: Labor Department releases 1st-quarter employment cost index. 8:30 a.m.; Commerce releases March durable goods. 8:30 a.m.

WEDNESDAY: Commerce releases 1st-quarter GDP (initial). 8:30 a.m.

THURSDAY: Labor releases weekly jobless claims, personal incomes-spending. 8:30 a.m.; Commerce releases March construction spending. 10 a.m.

FRIDAY: Labor releases April employment figures. 8:30 a.m.

SUNDAY, April 27:

Jakarta, Indonesia -- General election campaign starts. Through May 23.

Upington, South Africa -- President Nelson Mandela addresses a National Freedom Day rally on the holiday commemorating the nation's first all-race election three years earlier.

Italy -- Regional and local elections nationwide. Milan and Turin elect mayors.

Cairo, Egypt -- Coptic Christian Easter.

San'a Yemen -- Parliament elections.

Prague, Czech Republic -- Pope John Paul II on visit.

Washington -- President Clinton goes to Philadelphia for national summit on volunteering. Through April 28.

Hobart, Tasmania -- First anniversary of murder rampage by gunman Martin Bryant, who killed 35 people.

Canberra, Australia -- Japanese Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto visits, meets his counterpart John Howard.

Johannesburg, South Africa -- National holiday.

Cairo, Egypt -- Turkish President Suleyman Demirel visits for talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

Washington -- President Clinton returns to Washington.

Washington -- Supreme Court issues orders and decisions.

Washington -- Congress is in session.

Chicago -- Annual meeting and luncheon of The Associated Press. Annual meeting of the Newspaper Association of America.

Seattle -- Boeing annual shareholders meeting.

Los Angeles -- Motion for a new trial to be heard in Simpson civil case.

Los Angeles -- Breach of contract trial begins for Pamela Anderson, accused of pulling out of a movie project.

Pasadena, Calif. -- Arraignment of Chinese couple accused of keeping sex slaves.

Albuquerque, N.M. -- Sentencing of woman who pleaded guilty to two counts of murder for the 1996 video store slayings of five people.

Fort Bliss, Texas -- Roving Sands exercise ends with live missile firings.

TUESDAY, April 29:

Wellington, New Zealand -- Japanese Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto visits, meets his counterpart Jim Bolger.

Prague, Czech Republic -- German President Roman Herzog addresses both chambers of Czech Parliament.

Cairo, Egypt -- Arab ministers meet to discuss water use, conservation.

Washington -- Congress is in session.

Los Angeles -- Fifth anniversary of the start of 1992 Los Angeles riots. Also, Hip Hop Hall of Fame's 4th annual National Peace Day.

Los Angeles -- Nine endanged California condors will be transported from the Los Angeles Zoo to a Grand Canyon release site.

Los Angeles -- Status conference in a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Val Kilmer by a property developer.

Kansas City, Mo. -- Colin Powell speaks at the annual meeting of Swope Parkway Health Foundation.

Huntsville, Texas -- Execution for Ernest Baldree for killing a couple at their home in 1986. He was on parole at the time.

WEDNESDAY, April 30:

Washington -- Congress is in session.

Pasadena, Calif. -- Decommissioning of Caltech's historic wind tunnel, built in 1920 and used to test many of the warplanes that helped the Allies win World War II.

Los Angeles -- Airing of the "coming out" episode of "Ellen" on ABC. Various viewing parties planned around the country.

San Jose, Calif. -- Sentencing scheduled for two Montana Freemen followers in $12 million fake check case.

THURSDAY, May 1:

Geneva -- International organizations, corporations and Internet bodies sign a new accord on cyberspace names.

Britain -- National elections.

Berlin -- Repatriations of Bosnian refugee families begin.

Cairo, Egypt -- Egyptian parliament to vote on new budget.

Cairo, Egypt -- Egyptian authorities to close Mycerinus, the smallest of the Great Pyramids at Giza, for six months for repair.

Washington -- Congress in session.

Los Angeles -- Arraignment of Mikail Markhasev in the shooting death of comedian Bill Cosby's son. Grand jury transcripts to be unsealed, released 10 days later if not resealed by the court.

Los Angeles -- Music industry charity auction of memorabilia belonging to Keith Richards, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Pink Floyd and other rock performers.

Los Angeles -- Hearing in suit filed by Michael Jackson against "Hard Copy," which claimed there was a video of jackson having sexual relations with a 13-year-old boy.

Los Angeles -- Sentencing for Snoop Doggy Dogg's bodyguard, convicted of stalking a former girlfriend.

Fort Myers, Fla. -- Former Republican vice-presidential candidate Jack Kemp speaks at community prayer breakfast to celebrate "National Prayer Day."

Hermiston, Ore. -- Groundbreaking for chemical weapons burner

Milwaukee -- Preliminary hearing for 13-year-old girl on charge of stabbing a visiting nurse so she and her boyfriend could steal the woman's car.

FRIDAY, May 2:

Canberra, Australia -- German Chancellor Helmut Kohl to make first visit by German head of government. Through May 6.

Bristol, England -- Replica ship scheduled to begin retracing John Cabot's voyage to Canada.
