One of my employees will be taking off from work for the entire day to wait for GTE Hawaiian Tel to install her telephone line. It's bad enough she's being billed $75, but being given a time anywhere between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. is inconsiderate. Is there a reason GTE could not give a "morning" or "late afternoon" period for the installation? Whatever it is, it is terrible to need to take off from work for an entire day! GTE can't tell how long
telephone jobs will takeThe reason is that "we don't know how long a job will take, so it is hard to narrow it down to a specific hour," said spokesman Calvin Tadaki.
HawTel used to give customers a morning or afternoon time, but that didn't work because workers weren't always able to make it during the given period, he said.
The only consolation is, "If we don't meet our commitment for that day, the customer will get $25 credited to their account," Tadaki said.
