George Slain brings 24 years of financial experience to his job as chief financial officer of the Hawai'i Employers' Mutual Insurance Co.

"I saw the job as an opportunity to create a company that will provide true value to Hawaii's small businesses through lower costs and safety education (to reduce claims)," Slain said.

Hawai'i Employers' Mutual Insurance Co. was established by the 1996 Legislature to replace the existing workers compensation assigned risk pool with a non-profit corporation. It does not receive state funds.

Slain was vice president and treasurer for Pacific Resources Inc. from 1981-89. After Broken Hill Proprietary Co. bought the company he became vice president for project structure and risk.

Slain earned bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration at Indiana University.
