Roosevelt sophomore
flirts with no-hitter

Kukui Lucas, a sophomore right-hander for Roosevelt, flirted with a no-hitter yesterday in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division baseball game at Stevenson Intermediate School's field.

Lucas' bid was spoiled by Kahuku's Isaac Sarsona, the second batter in the fifth and final inning, who singled.

The Rough Riders (3-1) won 12-0 in a game halted after five innings by the eight-run rule.

Gavin Tsukamoto, Hunter Haliniak and Jeremy Awaya each had two RBIs for Roosevelt.

Toby Noe and Clint Hurst had doubled home runs in the top of the inning to pull the Tigers into the 6-6 tie.

Taylor lifts Kalaheo to OTwin

Kim Taylor scored four of her 16 points in overtime to help the Kalaheo Mustangs turn back the Kaimuki Bulldogs in an OIA Eastern Division girls basketball game last night at Kaimuki High gym.

Liz Trexler also had 16 points for Kalaheo, with 12 of her points coming in the first half, when the Mustangs took an 18-15 lead.

Denise Tateyama led the Kaimuki comeback to tie the game, with 10 of her 12 points in the second half.

Kailua 50, Farrington 47: Katie Stone kept the Surfriders in the game early, scoring 13 of the team's first-half points, then Kailua came on strong in the second half to pull out the win.

With the Surfriders trailing 30-18 at the half, Stone tossed in another six points in the third quarter as Kailua grabbed a 38-36 lead.

Stone finished with 21 points. Robynn Afe led the Governors with 15 points and Darcy Reformina added 12.
