Hess to coach at Kahuku

Charles "Chic" Hess has been named the boys' head basketball coach at Kahuku High School.

"We're fortunate to have someone with his experience and what he can offer our athletes here. He's worked a lot with our young kids at clinics," Kahuku athletic director Hartwell Lee Loy said.

Hess replaces Mark Carpenter, who coached the varsity for five years, but resigned recently to take a job with the band Chicago.

Previously Hess coached the men's team at Brigham Young University-Hawaii, posting a three-year record of 53-46, including trip to the NAIA national tournament in 1988-89.
