Name: Ronna Bolante
Age: 17
School: Sacred Hearts Academy
Favorite subject: Journalism
Future: Journalist

A journalist in the making

In the morning, Ronna Bolante might be found preparing a campaign speech. At the lunch hour, she may be prepping for an upcoming pageant. Late afternoon could find her writing a scathing editorial about affirmative action.

"I always want to get involved in every activity I can," said Bolante, a senior at Sacred Hearts Academy. Bolante is a National Merit Commended Scholar, senior class president, editor-in-chief of the school paper. And, of course, she's an average teen who enjoys shopping and going to the movies with friends.

"I cannot push her," said Remee Bolante, Ronna's mother. "She is self-motivated. She puts a thousand percent into everything she does, but she has to do it herself."

Remee Bolante and her husband, Andy, noticed their daughter's bright and inquisitive personality blossom when she was in the third grade. "We would have to say, 'Stop reading, Ronna, it's dark.'"

Bolante would eventually like to be in broadcast journalism. "It's always been a dream of mine to work in Los Angeles or New York," she said."

"Other people could benefit from her writing," said Karen Muramoto, student adviser. Muramoto has known Bolante since she entered the academy as a kindergartner.

"She can relate to everybody," Muramoto said. "She would make a really good reporter. She has the ability to make people feel at ease."
