UH's Milo gets national honor

University of Hawaii men's volleyball player Naveh Milo was named the national player of the week yesterday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

The 6-foot-2 outside hitter for the Rainbows hit .467 with 47 kills, 18 digs, seven blocks and six assists in leading Hawaii to a pair of victories over Southern Cal last weekend.

VULCANS LOSE: At Spokane, Wash., the University of Hawaii-Hilo baseball team lost a 15-13 slugfest with Gonzaga yesterday, a game in which the two teams combined for 36 hits.

The Vulcans lost their 12th straight and fell to 15-28-1.

HPU ADVANCES: The Hawaii Pacific baseball team is headed for postseason play for the first time in three seasons.

The Sea Warriors (19-14) yesterday were selected over The Master's College for the Far West Independent Conference berth in the NAIA Far West Sectional playoffs May 7-10 at a site to be determined.

WAHINE CAGE PROSPECT: Sarah Petersen, a 6-foot-3 forward from Ashland (Ore.) High is expected to announce today that she will sign a letter of intent to play for the University of Hawaii women's basketball team next season.
