Kahinu Lee sparks UH rally
to beat Southern Cal

Junior hitter Kahinu Lee came off the bench to ignite his University of Hawaii volleyball teammates and keep the Rainbows' playoff hopes burning bright via a 15-12, 15-5, 15-11 victory over Southern Cal Friday night.

Ninth-ranked Hawaii could lose Saturday night's rematch with No. 13 Southern Cal at the sold-out Special Events Arena and still make the playoffs but. ...

Why chance 'em?

A win clinches the Pacific Division's No. 3 seeding and allows the Rainbows to make travel plans without waiting for the results of Tuesday's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation finales on the mainland. A loss and Hawaii either finishes fourth and earns a wild-card berth, or it is finished for the season.

UH baseball team
still in the chase

SAN DIEGO -- Don't look now, but the University of Hawaii baseball team is creeping back into possible postseason play.

The Rainbows reeled off their fourth win in a row by upsetting San Diego State, 8-2, Friday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

Hawaii is now 14-27 for the season and 6-9 in the West Division. San Diego State fell to 26-12-1 overall and 9-7 in conference action.

The three division winners join three at-large teams with the best league marks for the six-team WAC tournament next month. At this point, the Rainbows trail the Aztecs by 21/2 games for the sixth and final spot.
