UH tennis teams taking to the road

The University of Hawaii men's and women's tennis teams start two-week road trips tomorrow that conclude with the Western Athletic Conference championships.

The Rainbows will play nine matches leading up to the WAC tournament in Fort Worth, Texas, April 23-26. Tomorrow's match is against St. Norbert in DePere, Wis. The men (11-4) have an eight-game winning streak.

The Wahine (8-11) have eight matches scheduled before the WAC tournament in Tulsa, Okla., April 24-26. They are at Wisconsin-Green Bay tomorrow.

SCHOALES, SAGAWA CITED: Hawaii Pacific University freshman pitcher Susie Schoales and freshman outfielder Lyrissa Sagawa have been named the Far West softball pitcher and player of the week, respectively.

Schoales (14-1) won her 13th consecutive game and lowered her earned run average to 0.74.

Sagawa singled and doubled and drove in four runs in two pinch-hit appearances.

WARRIORS TOP VULCANS: At Lewiston, Idaho, the Lewis-Clark State Warriors turned a 7-6 baseball game into an 18-6 rout of the University of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans with a 10-run seventh inning yesterday.

The Vulcans (15-24-1) had pulled to within one run in the top of the seventh and had the bases loaded with no outs, but failed to score again.

OUTRIGGER CANOE RACES: The 19th annual Waikiki Beach Boys Canoe Club Invitational races will be held tomorrow starting at 8 a.m. at Magic Island.

The men will race 10 miles, the women seven.

The entry fee is $50 per six-person crew. Call Rae Kamaka at 623-3341 for more information.

UH SHUTTLE BUSES: The University of Hawaii will provide shuttle bus service tomorrow for fans attending the men's volleyball match against Southern Cal.

Two shuttle buses will follow a route starting at Krauss Hall traveling via Correa Road and East West Road to the Bio-Medical Building and back to Krauss Hall.

Temporary shuttle stops will be set up along the route. Also, fans waving down the shuttle will be picked up. There is no charge.

The buses will run from 6 to 11 p.m.
