Tomori captures
All-Services Women's title

Christel Tomori shot a 3-over-par 74 to win the second All-Services Women's Invitational golf tournament by six strokes yesterday at the Kaneohe Klipper Course.

Tomori, a former University of Oregon golf star who now works at the Navy-Marine Course, had a 54-hole score of 223. Kristel Kakugawa was second at 230 following a 79. The first two rounds were played at the Barbers Point and Kalakaua courses.

The flight winners were (A) Yoshiko Koyama, 258; (B) Marilyn Smith, 262; (C) Jane Ibara, 271; (D) Sophie Yonashiro, 285; (E) Margaret Chun, 291, and (F) Frances Nakagawa, 300.

SEA WARRIORS NO. 2: The Hawaii Pacific University women's softball team climbed one spot to No. 2 in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll.

The Sea Warriors (34-5) received 210 points. Oklahoma City is No. 1 with seven first-place votes and 223 points.

KOWAL TO HARVARD: Punahou point guard Lisa Kowal will play basketball for Harvard University next year.

Kowal joins a team that lost its starting point guard, but returns four starters from a squad that was 14-0 in the Ivy League and qualified for the NCAA tournament.

UH ATHLETES AT BENEFIT: Members of the University of Hawaii men's and women's basketball teams and men's volleyball team will participate in an autograph session Saturday as part of UH's annual community service project for the Hawaii Foodbank.

The donation for an autograph is $5. There is free admission for parents, when accompanied by children under 12.

The event runs from 9-11 a.m. at the Special Events Arena courtyard and outer concourse. A behind-the-scenes tour of the arena will also be available.

Lower campus parking is $1 with a donation of a canned good.

OLDTIMERS HOCKEY TOURNAMENT: The Hawaiian Classic "Oldtimers" Hockey Tournament is scheduled for the Ice Palace Saturday through April 17.

The tournament begins with a 9 p.m. game Saturday between the Edmonton (Alberta) Fire Fighters and Hooter's Hammerheads.

Games are scheduled for 7:45 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. on April 14, 15 and 16. The April 17 games are set for 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

DEADLINE EXTENDED: The deadline to register for the Hilton Spring Tennis Classic (April 18-20) at the Turtle Bay Hilton Courts has been extended to Monday.

VULCAN PRIDE EVENTS: The third Vulcan Pride Home Run Derby, part of the University of Hawaii at Hilo's Vulcan Pride '97, will be held Saturday at Carvalho Field.

Other events include the Vulcan Pride Rummage Sale April 19, 8 a.m. to noon at the Old UHH gym. Donations can be made by calling UHH volleyball coach Sharon Peterson at 974-7698.

The Hui Kokua Kolepa's golf fund-raiser is April 26 at the Hapuna Course. Call Jim DeMello at 974-4720 for more information.

DANCERS NEEDED: Tryouts will be held Tuesday for energetic, outgoing dancers, 18 or over, interested in representing the semi-professional Pacific Basketball League this summer.

RESERVATION SYSTEM UPGRADED: Beginning Tuesday, golfers calling the City and County of Honolulu automated tee time reservation system will notice a difference in the way calls are processed.

Callers to 296-2000 will receive one of three responses: a ring, then a connection to the system; a busy signal; or three rings, then the "all circuits are busy" recording.

The upgrade results from an on-going review to ensure all calls to the automated tee time reservation system are processed equitably and consistently regardless of where the calls originate.

SIX-A-SIDE SOCCER: The University of Hawaii will host a Wahine Six-A-Side Soccer Tournament April 19.

The entry fee is $50 per team. For further information, call Kathy Carey at 956-4525.

WAHINE BASKETBALL BANQUET: The recognition banquet for the University of Hawaii women's basketball team is scheduled for April 20 at the Dole Cannery Ballroom.

No-host cocktails begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner at 6:15 p.m. The cost is $35 per adult, $15 for children, ages 3-12.
