Leading the Wok for the Cure

Gwen Nishizawa Clarke is working on a new fund-raising event for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation which provides research to benefit nearly 80,000 people in Hawaii who have the disease.

"The 'Wok for the Cure' is our spring fund raiser," Clarke said. "A card for $88 allows you to go to eight restaurants, and the first course is complimentary. It's a special course being prepared for us. And you can bring eight friends."

The card is valid through January 1998. The Wok for the Cure will start April 25. Mayor Jeremy Harris is the event's chairman. Only 500 cards will be sold, Clarke said.

Clarke was director of volunteer services at the Queen's Medical Center before joining JDF in March. She also has worked for Pacific Guardian Life Insurance Co.

She was one of two winners of the 1996 outstanding volunteer leader award from the Network of Volunteer Leaders.
