Bringing Kakaako together

Ron Teves, the new president of the Kakaako Improvement Association, wants to expand the membership from 100 and keep improving communications. The group started a newsletter last year.

"Kakaako is in the limelight. The governor sees it as the golden corridor. We need to keep our members informed," he said.

The association was formed in 1987 and includes both small businesses and large property owners. Teves said it works with the Hawaii Community Development Authority on development requirements.

The association's golf tournament in May will benefit the Children's Discovery Center in Kakaako.

Teves is president of the commercial division at Chaney Brooks & Co. He has been in real estate since 1973 and joined Chaney Brooks in 1985. He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology at Chaminade University.
