








Erin Stovall of Iolani School has been named to the 1997 Parade All-America High School Girls Basketball Team. Stovall named to Parade team
The 5-foot-8 senior, named to the magazine's second team, is one of 40 athletes from 25 states chosen.
Stovall is the first player from a Hawaii team to make the Parade team in its 21-year history. She also was a second-team selection to Street&Smith's preseason All-America team and played in the Nike All-American Girls Basketball Game in Hampton, Va., last Saturday.
HUALALAI PROS LEAD: John Freitas and Sam Ainsley, who represent the Hualalai Golf Course, shot an 8-under-par 64 to take the first-round lead of the Big Island Candies Scotch Four-Ball Championship yesterday at the Hapuna Golf Course.
One shot back at 65 were Dennis Rose and Joe Root going into today's final round, which will have an alternate-shot format. The event is sponsored by the Aloha Section PGA.
KAKUGAWA, TOMORI SET PACE: Kristel Kakugawa and Christel Tomori each shot a 75 yesterday at the Barber's Point Golf Course to share the opening-round lead in the championship flight of the 54-hole All Services Women's Invitational.

GIER CITED: Hawaii Pacific's Gerrard Gier was named Pitcher of the Week for the Pacific Northwest/Far West Region yesterday after tossing a shutout against Hawaii-Hilo last week.
Gier is 8-1, tying the school single-season record for victories. He has thrown seven complete games in nine starts this season for the Sea Warriors (19-14).
VULCANSLOSE:The University of Hawaii at Hilo baseball team dropped a 5-4 decision to WashingtonState University at Pullman, Wash.
The Vulcans, 15-22-1, loaded the bases in the eight inning but were unable to score. "It was a little frustrating,"said Vulcans coach Joey Estrella. We had a chance to score a few more runs but we just didn't get it done."
