Tipoti's 18 points help lift
McKinley girls over Kalaheo

Defending Oahu Interscholastic Association champion McKinley rolled over Kalaheo, 49-28, last night at its home gym in a season-opening girls' basketball game.

Va'e Tipoti, Sinatala Gago and Marjorie Nepo combined for 40 points -- Tipoti leading the way with 18 -- in the Tigers' victory.

Kalani 62, Farrington 57: At Farrington, Kimi Kaneshiro scored eight of her team-high 16 points in the fourth quarter as the Falcons held off the host Governors.

Farrington, led by Robynn Afe's 21 points, closed to within one point midway through the third quarter but could get no closer. Also in double figures for the Govs were Ana Mateaki and Seni Tolaumahina, both with 10.

Kalani also got 10 points from Elisse Hajine, four in the deciding fourth quarter.

Sherry's shutout paces Chargers

Duane Sherry tossed a three-hitter as Pearl City beat Campbell, 5-0, in an OIA Western Division baseball game yesterday at the Chargers' field.

Sherry, a senior right-hander, struck out six and walked only one.

Pearl City's Michael Gomes had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Kyle Izumigawa also drove in two runs for the Chargers.
