HOW come the number of days in a month change when all the other factors of time don't? Why is there a month with 28 days and another month with 31 days? How did they get those numbers 28 and 31? Were they randomly picked out of a hat or were they voted on? Who makes
these decisions? How come the sea is blue? Everyone says the sea is blue because blue is the last color of the rainbow. How come blue isn't the first color of the rainbow? Why is it when you look at the sea one day it's a light blue and the next day it's a dark green? Why is it that when you go down to the bottom of the sea it's black, not blue like the top? Since a lot of people think God created a lot of things the way he wanted, why didn't he make the sea purple or red? Was blue his favorite color?
How come there is no one language for everyone in every country to speak rather than one hundred different ones to confuse everyone? If everyone spoke the same language would everyone practice the same cultures? Someone told me that people are trying to create a language which contains a mixture of all the languages, called Esperanto. I think Esperanto is a pretty lame name. I think it would be cool if the name could include a letter from every different language but I know it won't happen.
How come bad things happen to good people and not to the ones who deserve it?
How come planet Earth is the only planet with human life? How come we have an atmosphere and no other planet has one? I know there's some scientific explanation behind this. How come planet Earth got so lucky; did God make it like this or was it just a matter of pure luck?
How come the world is the way it is? If the world were different would humankind still exist here? Or would humans be some kind of animal that swims in the sea or flies in the sky?
How come everything is the way it is and not different?
THE pressure that high school sports bring is tremendous and overwhelming. It's not just because of hazings, which have gotten a lot of press. By Tara Kaneko
Teamwork is hard work
I was a member of the girls' Castle High School soccer team this past season. The kind of pressure that I and many other athletes experienced, is the kind applied by peers and coaches.
I admit, I
wasn't the fastest or most skilled player on the team, but I tried to do my best. One mistake could cause a teammate to totally spaz at you. Being yelled at only makes people feel worse.
At times it came to a point when I didn't want to play. I wanted the team to win and didn't want to prevent that by setting foot on the field.
In the end, I still didn't understand the meaning of teamwork. I chose to go to the Freshman Banquet instead of the OIA championship game.
I was told after I bought my bids, dress and all the other stuff, that if I went to the banquet, I would be kicked off the team.
Tears filled my eyes because the choice was so difficult. Money that wasn't mine, but my date's and my mom's, was already spent. Yet my tears and sweat had been spilled for the team too.
In the end, I had fun dancing and eating with my good friends and seeing everybody all dressed up at the banquet.
Later my coach said I wasn't off the team, but suspended
All I can say to those inspired high school athletes is, be willing to sacrifice everything. I believe any goal is worth the hard work, if it's what you really want.
