FRIDAY

Energy fair: Windward Mall. Hawaiian Electric Co. will have games, displays, energy saving tips and entertainment by Ke Kane Alii, 5 to 9 p.m. At 11 a.m. Saturday, McGruff the crime fighting dog will join the celebration and at noon, Scott Shirai and Friends will share some karaoke. Ka HECO Hula will also give a performance. Children can also make buttons at "Special Dreams," 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.



SATURDAY

Visit with the Berenstain Bears: Brother and sister Berenstain share "Grow It! Mother Nature Has Such A Green Thumb" and other stories, 11 a.m., Border's Waikele. Call 676-6699.

Family fishing day: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 5 and 6, Ho'maluhia Botanical Garden. Bring a bamboo pole and barbless hooks and bait, walking shoes, insect repellent, light raingear and a picnic lunch. Participants will "catch and release" tilapia. Reservations at 233-7323.

Night reef walk: Explore the shore with Waikiki Aquarium staff, 7 to 9:30 p.m. Cost: $8 adults, $7 children. Register by mail. Call 923-9741.

Junior Zoo Keepers: Exploration of what it's like to work at the zoo begins 1 to 4 p.m. Children ages 5 to 11 will learn new things each week. Costs $20; for four classes, $70. Call 971-7195.



SUNDAY

Fossil Hunt: See fossils from the past and present, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 6, Waikiki Aquarium. Children must be at least 5-years-old and accompanied by an adult. Participants must provide their own transportation to the fieldtrip site. Cost: $8 adult, $7 children. Aquarium members get a $1 discount. Register by mail. Call 923-9741.

Art in the Zoo: Drawing, painting and sculpting at the Honolulu Zoo, 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays, beginning April 6. Children ages 5 to 11 meet zoo residents and learn about aesthetics and art history as well. Costs $80. Call 971-7195.



MONDAY

Drama program: Deadline to enroll for IMAGINE, where children can exercise their bodies and minds in creating stories and characters of their own, with guidance from the Honolulu Theatre for Youth. IMAGINE sessions will be Saturdays, April 12 through May 24, at Halawa District Park (afternoons) and Honolulu Zoo (mornings). Registration costs $75 for grades K-2 and $95 for grades 3-6. CONTEST

Art festival: Create a 2-dimensional artwork reflecting what "Children's Day" means, for the eighth annual Children's Day art contest, sponsored by the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii. Open to children in grades K through 8. Winners and selected entries will be displayed at Honolulu Hale May 12-30. First- and second-place winners in each grade level receive Central Pacific Bank Youth accounts. Deadline: May 1 for neighbor island entries and May 2 for Oahu. Register at 945-7633.
