take cross country crownsIn yesterday's stage five races, Michael Rassmussen of the United States won the men's contest in 40 minutes and five seconds.
Lennie Kristensen of Denmark was second in 40:29.
Alison Sydor of Canada finished first in the women's race with a time of 36:46.
She was closely followed by Canada's Melanie McQuade with a time of 36:56.
The overall winner in the men's pro downhill competition was Michael Ronning of Australia, who finished second in yesterday's race with a time of 17:23. Scott Sharples, also from Australia, won in 17:19.
Missy Giove of the United States was the women's pro downhill overall winner and she also won yesterday's race in 18:04.
UH SAILORS WIN: At Portland, Ore., The University of Hawaii coed sailing team won the Ranier Cup over the weekend with a total of 36 points.
Stanford was runner-up with 37 points followed by Southern Cal (40), UC Irvine (52) and Dartmouth (65-1/2).
STRUGLINSKI HONORED: At Minneapolis, University of Hawaii swimmer Peter Struglinski earned his second consecutive honorable mention All-American award at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships last week.
Struglinski placed 12th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of one minute, 58:89 seconds. He was 23rd in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55:77.
Hawaii earned five points for a 39th-place finish.
ULTIMATE EXPLOSION SET: Hawaii's own Kimo from Waianae will go head to head with Brian "The Fury" Johnston in the main event of the Ultimate Explosion at the Blaisdell Arena, April 16, starting a 7:30 p.m.
