Lyon Arboretum hike: Ray Baker gives a guided tour of favorite valleys and ridges, pointing out early plantings, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 29. Mosquito repellent recommended. Costs $9. Register at 988-7378.

Box Car Racing: Driving skill competition race, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 29, North end of Paiwa Road in Waikele. Youths of all ages welcomed. There will be three age groups. Box cars must conform to the American Box Car Racing International car specifications. Call 947-3393.

Fishing Tournament: Entries for the Sixth Annual Ulua Fishing Tournament sponsored by Kimura of Hawaii will be accepted until March 29. The tournament will be held from noon April 4 to noon April 6. Proceeds will go to the Catholic Charities' community services and programs. Prizes range from $200 to $1,000 provided there are 100 entries. Cost: $45 adults, $5 children. Call 537-6321.

Honolulu Marathon Clinic: Weekly jogging program with Dr. Jack Scaff Jr., 7:30 a.m. Sundays, Kapiolani Park Bandstand. James Honke leads a 6:30 a.m. program Sundays, Wahiawa Recreation Center.

Taiko classes: The Taiko Center of the Pacific offers classes through Kapiolani Community College. Call 737-7236.

Hawaii In-Line Skating Association: Workouts 5:30 p.m. weekdays at Kakaako Park. Call 988-5299.

Free hike to Diamond Head: Meet the Clean Air Team at the Honolulu Zoo entrance, 9 a.m. Saturdays. Three miles to the top. Call 948-3299.

Honolulu Community Drum Circle: Drummers, percussionists and dancers gather, 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays, Keehi Lagoon Park. Potluck. Call 377-DRUM (377-3786) to confirm location each week.

Honolulu Zoo: Zoo opens at 8 a.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. General admission $6; $2 with Yum Yum Tree senior card. First Wednesdays feature a botanical tour at 8:45 a.m. for $2 more. Third Wednesdays, tai chi practice begins 8 a.m. Call 971-7174.

Nature Conservancy hikes: Two guided hikes a month to Honouliuli Preserve, home to more than 45 rare native plants and animals. Donation. Call 537-4508.
