Bringing the market to Maui

Michele Burla Parker expects big things to happen after the Maui Marketplace formally opens May 31 in Kahului.

"So many Maui residents have been going off island to do their shopping," Parker said. "This (Maui Marketplace) is not just a value center, it's also a family center for locals, visitors and everyone."

Retailers include Eagle Hardware & Garden, Sports Authority and Borders Books, Music & Cafe. Parker works for Chaney, Brooks & Co., which manages the complex. She has more than 20 years of management experience, most recently at the Four Seasons Selection store at Wailea.

She worked eight years in California and returned to Hawaii in 1989. Parker has worked for the Grand Wailea Resort, Rock Resorts, Holmes Hotel Co., NBC-TV, Ritz-Carlton Hotel at Laguna Niguel, Calif. and for the Hyatt Hotels Corp. in Honolulu and San Francisco.
