Punahou opens with easy win

Host Punahou overwhelmed Mid-Pacific, 65-23, in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu girls' basketball opener yesterday.

Candice Usita and Onaona Miller combined for 23 points to lead the Buffanblu, who raced out to a 21-4 first-quarter lead and completely shut down Mid-Pacific, 22-0, in the second quarter .

Jade Savusa led the Owls with a game-high 16 points.

In the other ILH opener, University High hosted Kamehameha at Klum Gym but the game was not reported.

Tonight, University takes on Sacred Hearts at McCabe Gym at 6 p.m. and Maryknoll meets Iolani at Damien at 7:30 p.m.
