Poetry and short fiction are sought for the Hawaii High School English Writing Competition, sponsored by the Hawaii chapters of the National Society for Arts and Letters and the English-Speaking Union. The write stuff
Cash awards of $500, $250 and $100 go to the top three winners in both categories.
Poets may submit up to three poems, each between 25 and 200 words. Short fiction must be 2,000 to 3,000 words.
Contestants must be in grades 9 through 12. Submissions must be written in English, typed and double-spaced on 8.5-by-11-inch plain, white paper. The pages must be stapled together in the top left corner and must not be bound or enclosed in a cover or binder. Four copies of each work must be submitted.
Entries must include a title page with the title of the work, the contestant's name, address, phone number; name of the contestant's school, his or her grade, English teacher's name and business phone number. Entrants must also verify on the page that they have submitted original, unpublished work.
