The Royal Hawaiian Hotel will "co-star" in a Fox Television pilot that begins filming early next month.

An agreement between producers of the hourlong drama "Soulmates" and Sheraton Hotels & Resorts in Hawaii was reached Wednesday that allows some filming at the famed "Pink Palace" beginning April 2, said Barbara Sheehan, Sheraton's director of public relations in Hawaii.

"The agreement is to film at the Royal Hawaiian for the pilot only," Sheehan emphasized. "Despite previous news reports we have not made any commitment to have the entire series filmed here if the pilot gets bought."

"Soulmates'" production officials, including production manager Greg Prange, were not immediately available for comment and location manager Ginger Peterson declined comment.

The film schedule at the Royal Hawaiian includes three days in the hotel's $2,800-a-night King Kamehameha Suite and another three days in the foyer leading to the Monarch Room, Sheehan said.

The entire Hawaii filming will take about 10 days, state officials said.

A request to film at the hotel's entrance was rejected by hotel officials because that would be too disruptive to guests, Sheehan said.

Sheehan, Prange, Peterson and Hawaii Film Office manager Georgette Deemer and Oahu film official Walea Constantinau scouted film sites on Wednesday and Thursday.

"Soulmates," a Columbia TriStar production, also will film in San Francisco.

Meanwhile, casting continues with three local actors being tapped for speaking roles and another 150 being hired as extras, said Anna Fishburn, "Soulmates" casting director.
