'Jedi' returns

It is to George Lucas' credit that each of the films in his "Star Wars" trilogy is actually an individual movie and that he was able to sustain his mythological intergalactic world in the three films.

"Return of the Jedi," the final chapter, risked being dull and pat because it had the duty of tying up all the loose ends left dangling by its two deliberately open-ended predecessors, "Star Wars" and "The Empire Strikes Back." "Return" more than meets this challenge.

The rerelease of the last of the trilogy opens tomorrow at Kahala, Kapolei, Keolu, Mililani, Pearlridge, Restaurant Row and Waikiki 3 theaters.

Cigars spotlight
George Hamilton gala

The ever-tanned actor George Hamilton will step up to the stogie as host of a dinner tomorrow to showcase his new line of cigars.

Hamilton will present the Hamilton Reserve King George and Hamilton George I cigars that will be sampled after the dinner along with Cognac Marcel Ragneau "Fontvielle."

The event takes place at 6:30 p.m. at the Halekulani Hotel. Cost is $125 a person.

St. Patty's day frolic

Music, food and Irish fun are lined up for the 10th annual Merchant Street St. Patrick's Day Block Party Monday, starting at 6 p.m. The street will be closed to traffic from Nuuanu to Bethel for the festivities.
