Other requirements:Students must have earned a 2.5 cumulative grade-point average, must be Hawaii residents and demonstrate financial need. They must plan to attend an accredited four-year college or university as an undergraduate, full-time student carrying a minimum of 12 credits per semester.

In addition, the program provides special awards to individuals involved in creative projects that reflect the Japanese-American experience, as well as an award based on financial need.

The Maria Clara Club, founded in 1947, celebrates its golden anniversary this year as the Hawaii Filipino Women's Club. The event will be marked at the annual Terno Ball, 6 p.m. March 22 at the Hibiscus Ballroom in the Ala Moana Hotel. Maria Clara feted
