Concerto Night 1997: Windward Community Arts Council features Lisa Weiss, Yuka Nishii, Melissa Bow, Bradford Lee, Kyle Santos, Ernest Woo, and the students of Ellen Masaki, Craig Young, Joanna Fleming, George Nomura and Richard Hotoke, accompanied by the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra and Resident musicians, 6:30 p.m. March 8, Student Art Exhibit in the Ronald E. Bright Theatre lobby at Castle High School; and 7:30 p.m. in the theatre.

Borders-Ward Centre: Ken Emerson will perform steel/slack key guitar pieces, noon March 8, Borders Books and Music-Ward Centre.

Akoni Malacas, winner of the Kindy Sproat Falsetto & Storytelling Contest, will perform chants and songs from his album "Ku'u Aloha Ia Mama," 9 p.m. March 8.

Fellowship awards: The State Foundation on Culture and the Arts will accept applications for the 1997 Individual Artist Fellowships through March 21. The fellowships recognize artistic achievement and include $5,000 to further the artist's career.

Compositions in the following categories are considered: band, choral, contemporary Hawaiian/ethnic, contemporary/pop, musical theater, chamber music, jazz, opera and orchestra. Up to seven fellowships may be awarded.

Applications will be evaluated by two review panels, consisting of volunteers whom the SFCA recognizes as having proven expertise in music; the SFCA board will decide on the awards by the end of May.
