Going with a different flow

Michael R. Coad is excited about new products for the Oahu concrete and aggregate division at Hawaiian Cement. He replaces Charles A. Kubo, division vice president, who will retire on June 1, after 12 years with the company.

"We will be using new aggregate products like 'flowable fill' made with cement, fly ash (from burned coal) and water," Coad said. "The state Department of Transportation has just approved it." Coad said flowable fill can be used for trenching and pours easier than standard concrete.

He has been with Hawaiian Cement for 14 years, most recently as vice president for sales, marketing, administration and human resources. Coad also worked 10 years for Firestone Tire & Rubber Co.

He earned a bachelor's degree in political science at California State University, Chico, and a master's degree in business at Pepperdine University.
