Sea Warriors' streak stopped

Hawaii-Hilo stopped the Hawaii Pacific softball team's win streak at 14 yesterday with a 4-2 victory at the Sea Warriors' field in the first game of a Hawaii Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader.

UH-Hilo's Michelle Canchola held the NAIANo. 2-ranked Sea Warriors scoreless for six innings.

Hawaii Pacific came back to win the second game, 2-1, in eight innings, when Michele Ringor singled, stole second and third, and scored when Canchola's pitch got past UH-Hilo catcher Melanie Hipwell.

Hawaii Pacific is 18-3 overall, 9-1 in the HIAC. UH-Hilo is 6-8 and 4-6.

UTESSWEEPWAHINE

Utah's Ali Andrus-Gagrus pitched a two-hitter, striking out six, as the Utes beat Hawaii, 2-1, in the opening game of a college softball doubleheader yesterday at Wahine SoftballStadium.

The No. 21-ranked Utes completed the sweep with a 5-1 victory in the second game.

VULCANSLOSE

Pepperdine freshman Steve Schenewerk had a no-hitter through seven innings before settling for a complete-game victory over UH-Hilo, 9-2, yesterday.

Hilo's Marc McDonnell broke up the no-hit bid with a lead-off single in the eighth inning.

Pepperdine improved to 8-13 win the win, while Hilo fell to 12-14-1.
