Jazz fans, last call for
‘Straight No Chaser’

Jazz lovers may revel in an evening of their favorite music tomorrow as Azure McCall and friends entertain at the Honolulu Academy of Arts before a screening of "Straight No Chaser" at the academy's theater.

The film produced by Clint Eastwood is a documentary portrait of Thelonius Monk, the legendary jazz pianist-composer.

The performance and reception in the academy's garden runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with the movie following.

Admission is $15; $12 for academy members. Information: 532-8700.

Celebrate Hawaiiana

Ho'ike'ike 1997, a celebration of things Hawaiian, takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Bishop Museum.

"Aloha Pauahi, Aloha Ali'i" honors Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop and features Hawaiian crafts, keiki activities, food, music, storytelling, a fashion revue as well as entertainment by Halau Na Kamalei with kumu hula Robert Cazimero and Halau Na Pua Leo O Likolehua.

Admission is free for Hawaii residents. Visitors may also tour the museum's current exhibit, "Na Mae Makamae: Treasures of Hawai'i".

Toy Expo at McKinley High

"Star Wars" characters, Barbie dolls, G.I. Joe, WWF wrestlers and Elmo will all show up at Hawaii Toy Expo Sunday at McKinley High School cafeteria.

The show runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes action figures, comics, cards, Hot Wheels and other toys.

Admission is $2; free from children 5 and under. Information: 524-2744.
