Blending tradition, modern style

Joleen Coito watches over buying and selling in four key departments at Liberty House: juniors, fashion accessories, children's and women's Polynesian apparel.

Coito said the store's Polynesian wear line is changing. "Our Island Attitudes is more suitable for contemporary lifestyles," Coito said. "It's a blending of traditional and Hawaiian elements combined with contemporary styling."

Coito goes out on apparel buying trips to Los Angeles and New York, on average every six weeks, and will be adding Las Vegas to that schedule.

She joined the executive training program at Liberty House in 1979, held various merchandise buying positions before advancing to divisional merchandise manager in 1990. Coito grew up in Aina Haina and earned a bachelor's degree in business marketing and management from the University of Washington.
