Alabama leads
Burns tourney

Alabama, ranked 25th nationally, recorded a 285 total to take a two-stroke lead over Arizona after yesterday's first round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate golf tournament at the Kaneohe Klipper Course.

The Crimson Tide's Patrick Vadden leads the individual race with a 3-under-par 69.

Van Wright of the University of Hawaii green team shot a 71, putting him in a seven-way tie for third place.



GEDDES' TEAM WINS

Jane Geddes' team won the Cup Noodles Hawaiian Ladies Open Pro-Am tournament yesterday with a best-ball score of 50.

Deb Richard's team finished second with a 54.



HPU CITY CHAMPION

The Hawaii Pacific University men's tennis team defeated the University of Hawaii white squad, 3-2, to win the fourth annual City Championships yesterday at the UH Courts.

Chaminade University took third place with a 3-1 win over the UH green team.



SEASIDERS WIN

At Logan, Utah, four singles players prevailed without losing a game as the Brigham Young University-Hawaii women's tennis team had little trouble defeating Utah State, 8-1, yesterday to improve to 7-0 for the season.



HAWAII PREVAILS

Hawaii's drag racers defeated Alaska in the fourth annual Hawaii/Alaska Challenge last weekend at Hawaii Raceway Park. Hawaii recorded 31 wins to Alaska's 17.



INDOOR SOCCER

The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) will begin its first indoor soccer season for developmentally disabled children ages 6 to 14.

Interested players born between 1983 and 1991 can register Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Makiki Park. The fee is $25 per player. A copy of the birth certificate is needed.
