Beach no fun for Wahine

Long Beach State pushed across a run at the top of the eighth inning to edge the University of Hawaii Wahine, 3-2, in the championship game of the Paradise Classic yesterday at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Jessie Martinez scored the winning run when UH starter Kelly Gentle hit Deidra Oliver with a pitch with the bases loaded.

Tiffany Blood's two-run triple gave the Beach (9-2 overall, 7-2 Classic) a 2-0 first-inning lead.

The Wahine (9-3, 5-3) scored a run in the bottom of the first inning on Stephanie Wiese's sacrifice fly and tied the score in the sixth when Kehau Cofran was hit by a pitch and later scored on a groundout.

The Beach forced a second title game by blanking UH, 3-0, in the first championship showdown.
