Wahine golfers
finish seventh

CARMEL, Calif. - The University of Hawaii women's golf team finished seventh out of 21 teams in the Santa Clara/Colby Invitational golf tournament yesterday.

The Wahine had a 636 total for the 36-hole event, 30 strokes behind the University of Oregon, which won by 20 strokes over runner-up Arizona.

Susanne Gillemo of Brigham Young University won a tiebreaker to claim individual honors after finishing at 149.

Dawn Kaneshiro paced the Wahine with a 156, good for a five-way tie for ninth place.

UH's Melissa Shintani (159) tied for 24th place; Jolene Furuto (164) tied for 36th; Linda Applelblad (166) tied for 41st, and Mei-Lin Poai (168) tied for 53rd place.



D'S DINER WINS TITLE

Clayton Fujie pitched a three-hitter and hit a home run as D's Diner won the first-round championship of the Honolulu Makule Softball League at Ala Moana Park Sunday with a 5-3 victory over Kanai Tofu. Mike Shiira hit a home run for the losers.
