






The University of Hawaii women's softball team won two games yesterday to take the eighth annual Preseason Softball Classic championship with a 4-0 record at the Rainbow Wahine Stadium. Wahine unbeaten
in own softball classicKelly Gentle pitched a one-hitter as the Wahine defeated Chaminade, 9-0, then provided two innings of one-hit relief for Stephanie Wiese as UH handed Hawaii Pacific its only tourney loss, 4-2.
In an earlier game, the University of Hawaii at Hilo (2-2) edged Chaminade (1-3), 3-2, behind the two-hit pitching of Michelle Canchola.
Wiese had three hits and Kehau Cofran knocked in two runs for the Wahine in their title showdown with the Sea Warriors (3-1).
Lyrissa Sagawa had two RBIs for Hawaii Pacific.
At Santa Cruz, Calif., Rochelle Ballard of Hawaii won the women's division of The Billabong, Clarion Surf Tour's first stop of the year, in 4- to 6-foot surf at The Lane. BALLARD FINISHES FIRST
Ballard's score was 30.17 and she won $1,800 and a Clarion CD Player.
Kauai's Keala Kennelly placed second (27.53) and won $800. Megan Abudo of Hawaii was third (24.03) and took home $600.
Peter Mel of Santa Cruz won the men's division.
Joel Tudor captured the longboard title.
Chris Crawford and Susan Colburn were the men's and women's winners, respectively, yesterday in the Road Runner Club of American 20-kilometer state championship race held at Barber's Point. CRAWFORD, COLBURN WIN
Crawford finished in one hour, 14 minutes and 22 seconds, a mere six seconds ahead of runner-up John Mryka.
Colburn had a little easier time with a 1:37:58 clocking, while second-place finisher Sandra Burgess was timed in 1:38:50.
Randy Dacuycuy of Pearl City rode his Suzuki GSXR to victory Saturday night at Hawaii Raceway Park, winning the season-opening Motorcycle Saturday Night event with a best time of 10.65 seconds for the quarter-mile run. DACUYCUY TOP MOTORCYCLIST
