It's official: Gloria Estefan will perform in Hawaii for the first time in nine years May 3 at 8 p.m. at Aloha Stadium.

Tom Moffatt, the concert promoter who brought Michael Jackson to Hawaii in January, made the announcement yesterday at a news conference at the stadium.

Tickets at $20, $35, $45 and $65 will go on mail-order sale in the newspaper Sunday.

There will be 31,000 tickets available, Moffatt said.

The hugely popular Estefan, who will arrive in Hawaii April 28 from concerts in Asia, has had one of the more precarious careers in pop.

After nearly 10 years of stamping out pulp fare in English, Estefan in 1993 veered off the predicted path by recording "Mi Tierra," a Spanish-language album. She continued in 1995 with "Abriendo Puertas." Both are Grammy Award winners.

"Destiny," her current album, is her first English-language recording in five years.

In 1990, Estefan was injured when her band's bus was involved in an accident in Scranton, Pa. A concert planned for Hawaii in April that year was put off because of the injury.
